Sailboats and Bridges

Sailboats and Burj Al Arab (designed from the idea of a sailboat) are shown in the first two rows of images. There are also close up pictures of the rigging to emphasize connections within sailboats. I personally have been attracted to sailing since I was young. Just last spring I studied in Dubai for a semester and was able to visit the Burj Al Arab.

Bridges 4 of which were designed by Calatrava, shown in the second two rows of images. The last three pictures are of Passerelle Valmy (La Defense, France), which is an asymmetric cable-stayed pedestrian bridge. Though currently pursuing my BA in Architecture, I plan to delve into civil engineering in order to further explore that field.

All of the structures shown above rely heavily on tension. Ropes and sails in the boats, when properly positioned, utilize wind to move across the water.
